About the author
From around 1974, I regularly visited my uncle, aunt and cousin in Guisborough. We would often walk their two greyhounds through the peaceful surroundings of Guisborough Woods, before enjoying Sunday lunch with fresh vegetables picked from their allotment. I also fondly remember sitting around the coffee table in the living room, popping fresh garden peas from their pods.
In 1983, my parents, sister, our pet cat and I moved here permanently, making this familiar and much-loved place our home.

Putting down roots in Guisborough

A passion ignited by our green spaces
A renewed dedication to Guisborough’s heritage took hold around 2016. Joining fellow residents in a campaign to protect vital local green spaces, we successfully safeguarded our landscape from development. That shared triumph sparked a profound curiosity about the centuries of events and people who shaped our town long before us.

Uncovering pre-priory origins and beyond
My historical research delves into the lesser-known eras, beginning with the fascinating period before the founding of Gisborough Priory. The journey continues with detailed explorations of iconic local heritage, including the evolving story of Church Street and other key landmarks across our historic community.
"A compelling, richly detailed look at our town's earliest chapters that every local history enthusiast should read."
